PINCH

A few photos from a recent assignment with the lovely people at PINCH furniture. I was invited to spend a day at their studios in South London and capture the day to day goings on and also some informal portraits that reflected the brand for press and editorial use.
For me this was right up my street and I was delighted to do so...
...'Pinch' is the collaboration between husband and wife team Russell Pinch and Oona Bannon. Russell was born in 1973 and after graduating from Ravensbourne college he worked as Sir Terence Conran’s design assistant, in 1995 he became a Senior Product Designer for the Conran Group. Oona's background lays in production and branding, their approach to design combines a keen appreciation of artistic lines and form, absolute attention to detail and sensitivity to materials. Clients include Selfridges, Jamie Oliver and Conran.

Net-a-porter

An image from one of this week's features in the Net-a-porter magazine...and it's mine!
On the day I was asked to compose and photograph a few still life creations  involving key pieces from next season, using various lighting set-ups. This one was quite simple involving x1 light and a snoot head (lots of white tack and reflector boards...)
more to come.

Emma Cowie's Collection

This image above is from a recent shoot featuring textile designer Emma Cowie's latest collection. Emma is currently a student at the Royal College of Art undergoing a Masters Degree in mixed media and textiles, we collaborated to produce a set of images/a look-book for her final show exhibition.

Emma work has been inspired by her Scottish heritage. Her family were all fishermen and she was brought up in a small fishing town off the east coast of Scotland. She has taken all the fishing stories, that she has on cassette, told by her family and used this as inspiration. Her work is mainly done on the embroidery machines. The photos are of her Dad and his boat.

Catch her full collection and all the images from shoot currently being exhibited at the Royal College of Art.

1DAY6CITIES Project goes live

1DAY6CITIES is a global photography project that took place on the 11th November 2011 - 11.11.11, in London, Dubai, Shanghai, Auckland, San Francisco and São Paulo. Using word of mouth, email and social networks an international team of photographers were put together to create a unique twenty-four hour snapshot of this day across six very different cities around the globe.

At exactly 00.00 Coordinated Universal Time (world time/GMT) photographers in each of these cities captured their first image in an event that saw photographs being taken every 30 seconds for the following 24 hours. The brief was for the photographers to shoot the most interesting thing happening in their city, at the time they had chosen to shoot.

Last year I was one of the photographers involved in creating this project and it is wonderful to see the final results of the 24 hour time-lapse of the world finished and pressed...a big round of applause for everyone involved!

the website showcasing the project is now live at 1day6cities check out for yourself.

Clerkenwell Design Week

It's that time of the year again for the inspiring Design week in Clerkenwell and recently I took some photographs of designer Fay McCaul's latest pieces which will be involved in this years exhibition, here's a couple of photos from the day...This piece seen here is called the 'Vela Screen' , each knitted panel of the oak framed 4-panel room divider has over 1000 iridescent acrylic squares embedded into the cotton yarn. Acting like stained glass the acrylic squares shift colour from blues and mauves to silvers and golds depending on the light.

Fay McCaul is a london based designer who mixes modern materials - fibre optics and incandescent acrylic - with traditional knitting methods to create clever interior accessories, room dividers and installations.

See her full collection at the show from the 22-24th May.

A day with Daughter.

A few photographs from a recent promo shoot with 'Daughter' aka Elena Tonra, my trusty assistant and I met the band Elena, Igor and Remi on a beautiful Spring morning in North London under instruction to take some 'nice photos' to coincide with the recent announcement of their signing to record label 4AD.

It was a really fun and chilled shoot, full of little challenges to work around the bright sunlight nevertheless a real pleasure to photograph...we managed to shoot many frames in many places and even found enough time for alittle bbq and a few drinks at the pub afterwards. good times.

the band will be touring the UK and Europe this summer catch them if you can !

Olly aged 12.

This post welcomes an image of my little step Brother Olly. Whenever I return home to Shropshire I always take my camera to snap interesting things I see and also to try and take a few opportune photos of Olly, this picture was taken near the top of Cardingmill valley near Church Stretton. When I take Olly's picture at the time it's just for fun although, I have begun to archive the photographs as a record of him growing up and evolving from a child, to a boy and soon scarily to a young man. It is a magical thing to try and capture... I hope to make it in to a portrait series when I have enough shots.
